Research and personal experience demonstrate that pets are most comfortable in a familiar environment.  This allows pets to eat, sleep and play in their own space surrounded by their favorite toys, smells, sounds, etc.  By eliminating the stress on your pet from a strange kennel and providing your pets with their regular diet, digestive problems such as vomiting, diarrhea and gastric ulcers are avoided.    This is especially important in older pets who may not tolerate needless vaccinations and pets with underlying medical conditions such as
diabetes, heart disease or kidney disease.   By staying at home, your pets do not have to be needlessly exposed to disease, parasites or stress.  As with people, stress can cause illness and malaise in otherwise healthy pets.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. I have never used a pet sitter before. How can I make sure I am getting a
trustworthy, dependable pet sitter to care for my pets and property?

A. As a pet owner, I understand the responsibility of caring for your pets and property.  I take this responsibility very seriously.  I am a Certified PetTech with over 15 years experience caring for all kinds of pets and specifically handling canines.  I am a member in good standing with Professional United Pet Sitters (P.U.P.S.) and I am bonded.  

Q. What does Urban Paws typically provide for a client when they are out of town?

A. My typical client requests 1-3 visits per day, each visit typically lasts anywhere from 15-45 minutes depending on the number of pets and services requested.  I treat each client and their pet(s) as individuals.  I will perform each service the client has requested in addition to my normal visit services.  During each visit, I will always provide fresh water, food, clean the yard and/or cages as directed, administer medications as requested, provide companionship, walks, exercise & belly rubs.  

I am happy to accommodate most special requests as I want your pets to be as happy and
comfortable as possible while you are away.  I will also look after your home by bringing in your mail and newspapers, alternate lights and drapery, set out and bring in the garbage and recycling and water your plants.  This gives you peace of mind and provides your home with a "lived in" appearance while you are away.

Q. What type of dogs does Urban Paws care for?

A. I love all dogs great or small!  I will care for most dogs as long as they do not pose a
danger to me and do not have a history of aggression to other people or pets.  

Q. What areas do you serve?

A. Currently, my service areas include the greater Birmingham area, including most of Shelby county.

Q. I have a few special items at my house that I also would like to have taken care of while I am away. Will Urban Paws be able to handle this while I am gone?

A. Most definitely!  I will be happy to customize my service to meet your needs as much as possible.  From watering your orchid collection to filling your bird feeder...I've got you covered!

Q. What forms of payment do you accept and when are payments and deposits expected?

A. I accept cash, check, and Pay Pal as payment for services and deposits.  For all clients, a 50% deposit is expected at the time your reservation is made to hold your reservation.  The balance of the contract is due no later than the first day the assignment is to commence.  For more information on this and my standard operating procedures, please visit my

Q. So, how do I get started if I want to use your service?

A. In order to provide the absolute best pet care, I believe it is necessary for you and your
pets to get to know me and discuss you specific needs.  To facilitate this, I provide a free
